What Music Does Vocal Synergy Sing?

We tend to feature songs from popular radio hits, Broadway and classical choral a cappella. We have a growing repertoire from many genres: jazz, barbershop, folk, contemporary a cappella and more.  We sing songs audiences love to hear and our group loves to sing – as long as they are a capella.]

Do I Need to be an Experienced Singer?

You are not required to have prior choral singing experience or read sheet music. You’ll have tools like “learning tracks” of your voice part, experienced singers to ask for help, and a section leader to guide the group through learning. The challenge of learning together is part of the fun!

Do I need to audition?

Prospective members are asked to attend three rehearsals. At your fourth session, one of our music leadership will meet with you privately to answer any questions, assess your ability to blend with the group’s sound, and confirm your voice part. Our chorus leadership will then follow up to discuss your interest in joining the group.

Are there “seasons” to your performances?

Vocal Synergy rehearses and performs year-round. We build a repertoire for long term use – adding or replacingsongs on a regular basis, not on a per season basis. We spend time mastering a song and want to share it with as many people as possible.

Where do you perform?

We perform regularly at street fairs, special events, and hired gigs. We do have two annual performances – one at Music Under the Stars in the summer at Deer Path Park, and then a theatrical/concert show in December with the Hunterdon Choral Alliance. Other events are shared with the group when they are booked.

Is there a cost involved in joining Vocal Synergy?

Yes. Vocal Synergy must purchase music & uniforms, rent rehearsal space, and pay a nominal stipend to our directors. As part of the Hunterdon Choral Alliance, we apply for grants and sponsorships, but this does not cover the costs involved in maintaining the group. Individual financial obligations and options available will be discussed with you after your vocal assessment.

What are your COVID Protocols?

Very simply, no one who is Ill or exposed should attend rehearsals or performances. Singing is a high-risk activityand we ask everyone to take proper precautions to care for one another. Mask wearing is at your comfort level. Rehearsals via Zoom are available to those who are unable or uncomfortable to attend in person but are not a replacement for all rehearsals.
